Another favorite bird of mine, I seem to say that about most birds but these little guys are special. I have a dead tree in my yard that the kestrels love, they perch on the highest remaining branches and dive down on unsuspecting insects and lizards. I have watched them do this and I am constantly amazed at their vision, how they pick out a big grasshopper among the green leaves at 30 yards, amazing. The jessamine vine also grows in my yard, it seemed to really go with the colors of the Kestrels. In this piece, as in most of my newer works I am emphasizing movement and curiosity, as my subjects navigate their world.
