This past Tuesday 1/13 I taught a workshop for the Tarpon Springs Art Association in Tarpon Springs. I haven't taught a workshop like this in over a couple of years. I teach out of my home studio all the time, but going and talking to a new group of artist's like this is really exciting! I spent a few hours planning what to say and which pieces of mine to use as examples. When I teach guest workshops like these they are all a bit unique in regards to time I'm allowed, how many artists attend, if they want me to cover special areas of interest, etc. In this case I spoke about my work and method as well as showing images of my paintings and using them as examples. I have found that I can talk about artwork forever, so I limit it to topics. The topics that I talk about are; Materials, Referencing, Technique, Composition, Light, Shadows, Backgrounds, Movement, and Color. Light is the consistent thread thru the entire presentation, learning to see the light then painting great light! I really enjoy teaching and talking about painting and maybe you should try a Stephen Koury Workshop!
